I admit this particular blog assignment is somewhat difficult for me. Why? Because I still don't know what the hell I want to do with my life! This is my second go-around in college. I went to school 10 years ago (yes I'm older than probably everyone else in the class) for acting. For the past 5 years I've worked for a mental health/substance abuse network. I need a change. To what exactly, I don't know, but I'm searching. So perhaps my "vision" isn't exactly as pinpointed as others, but I will give it a try.
1) Inner Peace: This sounds very broad I know. But I think it's essential. I have a goal, a "vision" for myself of obtaining happiness with myself, in every sense of the meaning. I'm not sure when this will occur, but I'm willing to keep searching until I find it.
2) A worthy profession where I am actually helping someone: Like millions, I wake up, go to work, sit in a cube, stare at a computer, go home/to school, eat, sleep, wake up and do it again. I'm just going through the motions. I don't feel like I'm really contributing to society at all. It's not a great feeling. I'm looking for something where I can really make a difference. I know that's cliche, but it's true for me.
3) Enjoy what I do: This is a must. I don't need to have a glamorous position, or the corner office, or even an office at all. I just want to actually enjoy what I do.
How will I make these "visions" a reality? I'm going to explore every possible opportunity that's out there until I find the right combination. I will remain resilient and keep focused...that's my only hope!

Sounds a lot like my thoughts when it comes to the future. Not knowing exactly what i want to do but knowing what needs to get done along the way until i figure out what it is exactly i do want to do. Life is long, and your young enough where we all still have time to figure it all out. Most people also change jobs multiple times in their lives for better opportunities, so much of our thinking of getting a job after college and being "set" isn't necessarily the case.
Nicee.... I think you are very focused in what vision u have for yourself. Despite the fact that you may not know exactly what you want to do, you know your end result which is just as good. In a since I kind of that you have alot of direction because people may have plans on what they want to do but when they achieve it is not what they are looking for. You on the other hand are looking for an ending result. The vision that I really llike is inner peace because it is so hard to find that so I wish you well on that vision. I also agree with you about going through the "motions". It is tiring, boring and monotnous. With all that said, I wish you alot of luck on all your visions.
Although i didn't mention it in my post, i share your vision of inner peace and happiness. I call it self actualization meets happiness. My ultimate goal in life is to be happy, no matter what that entails.
Hey Adam,
I also think it is very important to enjoy what you do. When you find it, it'll be all worthwhile. You'll be happy doing what you like and in a way it'll create a sense of inner peace. So definitely keep exploring and stay focused because the possibilities are endless.
I was once one of the millions who just woke up every day to go thru the motions, although I looooved my job.. And still found no satisfaction.. Had no inner peace.. Didn't feel like I was making a difference.. It is so important to be in peace with yourself because it will reflect in everything you do.. even if you're in a position where you can help people... if u dont have that inner peace you wont be able to perform...I found that inner peace and life makes so much more sense now.. We'll talk more!
Ohm.
Inner peace is more important than most things people fight to try to achieve or have. Spirituality is indeed something to strive to maintain, and a quite proper vision. I share in this vision for you.
Namaste.

Very few people know exactly what they want to do. Even those few change their mind a lot too. Because it is so hard to look into the future, your goals are smart for now. Keep working hard.
Until I read your first goal I never really thought of inner peace. I would have to agree with you in that unless inner peace is achieved within a person no outside goal or achievement will ever be satisfactory.
I love that your visions are particularly about personal growth. I think that one should definitely strive for inner- peace and happiness in all aspects of life. For me, it is to feel/experience true joy and to know that my life actually makes a difference to someone. I often think of of the world would be like 2 centuries from now...then I think about myself...of course i will no longer be here. But i think.. 'who will remember me?" Unless I do something really profound that makes it into the history books, chances are no one will. But if I can make a difference in the life of someone today and I can truly find inner peace and joy in my lifetime, then I would have lived a life worth living.
With that being said, I think you should definitely continue to strive to find your inner peace.
How old are you?
Do you know anything about computer or networking?
What about animation?
What is experience in acting?
I thought about unofficially starting a club on campus or officially off campus by word of mouth that is about acting, performing art, and visual comedy. It is just a hobby thing, and if we have enough to sustain the club, the money goes to charity.
They have this kind of organization in NYU and Columbia, particularly Columbia. There are also other grass root organization, flash mob organizations, doing some Bobo, yuppie, neo-hippie fun stuffs. It seems none of the have the attention and impact like the Comic Relief in UK and Australia, or the fame of the Oxbridge student comedy and sketch acting organizations, not even Harvard or Yale.
I think the technology industry also need some artistic mind people to work for them to change the world.
Have you ever think about working for the U.N.?
I like art, fashion, designing, social dancing, tap dancing, team sports, extreme sports, endurance sports, architecture, traveling, technology, creative field, environment, gardening, racing, sports involving a ball or speed, engineering, and science.
So beside this business school stuffs, there are many other things I am interest in learning and getting involve in too.
Another way you can contribute to the society is to join The Jedi Order.
looks like you have great things to focus on. im in the same position as you where i still dont know what to do with my life. but im sure that if you have great vision and strive for success, you will achieve it. good luck.
